Aki-con 2013: Snapshots

I'm going to admit something here: Sometimes I'm not as strong as I make myself out to be on the internet. Sure, I'm strong, and I have a thick skin, but over the course of Fangasm being on TV and all of the hatred I received there were some moments where I just wanted to hide under my blankets and cry. I had kind of isolated myself from all of my friends because I've been so busy lately, so I was living on the internet and despite myself I was falling prey to some of the cruelty that has been thrown my way for being an outspoken feminist on television.

Aki-con is a small convention here in Seattle, down at a hotel in Seatac. This year they were kind enough to invite me as a guest, so I did a lot of signings and Q&As. I got a hotel room with some of my closest Seattle friends and the entire thing was just so, so good for my soul. I went from feeling lonely and sad to feeling completely fulfilled and happy.

I'm so lucky to be surrounded by strong, outspoken, brilliant women who aren't catty and are a great support network for one another. I feel like sometimes I forget that I have that and start feeling sorry for myself, and this weekend reminded me to suck it up and be super thankful for what I have. It's amazing what good company, good conversation, and an overload of geekiness can do for a girl!

I also made some great new friends, like that brunette babe covered in geeky ink in the above photographs. She's an extremely talented cosplayer known as Feoranna. She and I are getting married, just fyi. And I also spent some time with amazing voice actor David Vincent, who is a truly genuine individual and gave me some really good advice on my career.

Basically, Aki-con was everything I needed... and now I'm super energized and ready for Stan Lee's Comikaze next week where I get to re-unite with all of the Fangasm crew since we filmed our promos back in July! YAY!

NYCC 2013: Cosplay

This year at New York Comic-con I took a surprisingly lack of cosplay pics. For a girl who generally amasses nearly 500 photographs a convention, my SD card was shockingly sparse by the end of this weekend. However, there's some reasons for that.

  1. The red carpet that Reed Pop just LOVES TO USE makes everything look terrible. TERRIBLE, I TELLS YA.
  2. I was walking around with 3 of the other Fangasm cast. We were being stopped for photos constantly. It was hard to take photographs of my own!

However, I did the best I could and here are the snaps of some of my favorite cosplay that I saw. There were a few I REALLY wanted to photograph (like the Breaking Bad cosplay!!), but they were surrounded by too many people or I didn't have time to stop.

Tomorrow I'll be posting my snapshots from my nightlife and NYC adventures.

What about you guys? What was your favorite NYCC cosplay you saw, in person or online?

My Sparkly Week, As Portrayed by Instagram // June 24-30

Saying goodbye to Kristin right before I left LA :-( (If you like my hat, you can get a similar one here!) // "Welcome home" whiskey drinks with the waifu! // Bein' cute at karaoke // My amazing friend Tobias brought me unicorn sugar cookies to welcome me home!!

MY UNICORNS!!! I missed you ever so much. I just returned from Los Angeles and my insane adventures down there on Monday, and after seven days I'm finally feeling recovered and (mostly) up to par. I've been slowly easing back into social media and blogging, so expect regular outfit posts again very soon! I also have some fun new features coming up for you... DIY, exploring Seattle's local clothing shops and eateries, my beauty favs, makeup tutorials... the Geeky Peacock is rocketing quickly into full blown blogging mode again! So make sure to keep an eye out for these things in the near future.

But now the big news, which I will announce in a more official capacity in the near future: The reason I was down in LA for the past month and a half and completely without social media access was because I was FILMING A TV SHOW. Yes, yours truly is finally fulfilling her mad dreams of being on TV - this October! I'm SO EXCITED, and I'll be able to tell all of you more once the promos come out.

A lot has happened since I last blogged - namely the TV show - but I'm also single now. Dan broke up with me right before I headed down to LA, which was a pretty big blow. But now I have my cute apartment to myself and I'm coping by surrounding myself with friends and projects. In other words: I'm doing just fine!

I'm in mad preperation mode for San Diego Comic-con [it's in two weeks, what?!] and my cosplay all seems to be coming along nicely. I'm definitely doing Steampunk Wonder Woman (she is going to look EVEN BETTER this year) and Super Villain Cruella Deville. However, I may be adding another costume to the line up - a secret I'm embarking up with my lovely waifu, Sarah Hiraki. I will say this: it's going to be cute. REALLY cute.

Anyway, tl;dr: TV show, blogging yay, and I missed you guys!! Here's the rest of the IG pics!

My precious Sushi, so happy to have me home and getting all the tummy rubs she could ever want // I'm on a total houseplant kick! My mantle is starting to look like a jungle. I'm going to put these cuties into terrariums soon. // Madness with Emily and Sarah before Friday night girl's night // My face. Yep.

Drunk girls out for Seattle Pride!! // Next day hangover cure/heat beating: bubble tea and battleships. Sarah and I have weird Battleship ESP with one another. // Mint obsession! // I have such a babely best friend.

Snuck away from a weird birthday dinner and took bathroom pics like classy broads. // THIS SODA HOLY SHIT. // Tried Mac's "Candy Yum Yum" lipstick. NEED TO BUY WITH NEXT PAYCHECK. // Sarah and I escaped the horrible heat by walking around the mall. The Mac store has good lighting. Thus: selfies.

PS: Don't forget to follow me on Bloglovin' since GFC is going away!!

Shopping Haul: eBay

Lately I have been on a huge jewelry splurge. Okay, that's a lie... not lately: ALL THE TIME. It's almost habitual the way that I lurk around eBay and bid on things for ridiculously cheap. I guess you could say I am addicted to the the hunt - there is something so deliciously gratifying about getting something you really wanted for less than 5 dollars. I would say that 95% of my jewelry collection is from me obsessively stalking eBay listings from wholesalers in China in order to get the best price.

It's also pretty much the best thing ever to constantly be getting packages in the mail. Sometimes I forget what I bid on and just pay things in a giant chunk without looking - then it makes getting the items like Christmas! Tearing into a package and not knowing what goodies lie within... oh, I'm getting excited just thinking about it.

Anyway, here are some things that have showed up in my mailbox lately. I CAN'T WAIT TO STYLE THE CAT EARS.

What about you guys? What lovely scores from eBay have you found?

My Sparkly Week, as Portrayed by Instagram #2

The incredible tote bag I received courtesy of Whimsy Bags. I can't wait to wear it in an outfit post this week!! // Daniel brought me this tiny horse the other morning - he found him abandoned on the mean streets of Seattle, and knew I would give him a good home. I was hungover and it brightened my morning. I named him Oscar Wild - hardy har, get it? // Apparently there's Little Twin Stars perfume. I found it at the Good Will... I really wanted it, but it smelled quite terrible. // Sushi is very sleepy. She is also very cute when she sleeps. // Sushi made a friend!! His name was Harley Davidson. He gave her face kisses! She is channeling very much durp here. // My friend Mandy scored me this awesome unicorn wallet. I'm very excited. // I love Seattle <3 // Graffiti in the women's restroom at AFK Tavern.

Outfit #8: Cosmos

Continuing on with my fixation for the Universe and all that it entails, I finally received my galaxy leggings from Romwe, and I'm pretty sure they are now going to have to be pried from my cold dead body.

I'm happy to announce that from today onwards I will be featuring my iPhone case with my outfit posts every day! I am obsessed with iPhone cases and thus have a giant shoe box full and change them out as often as I change clothes.

Dress: Thrifted // Jacket: F21 // Leggings: Romwe.com // Wedges: Steve Madden, Thrifted // Jewelry: H&M (rings) and eBay (Necklace) // Denim Purse: Thrifted // Deco iPhone Case: eBay
